Thoughtful, Home-Raised Beginnings

The first weeks of a puppy’s life matter.  At Salty Paws, every puppy is raised alongside our family, and given the individual attention and early experiences that set them up for a confident, happy life in yours.
 

🏡 Raised in Our Home, From Day One

Our puppies aren't raised in a kennel or separate space -- they're in our living room, our kitchen, and our daily life.  Because we have children and other dogs, puppies are naturally exposed to real family environments from the very beginning.

Every puppy receives daily handling, affection, and supervised interaction to build trust and comfort with people from the earliest age possible.
 

🌱 Early Socialization & Enrichment

Our puppies participate in a structured, age-appropriate enrichment and socialization program throughout their first weeks of life.

As they develop, we gradually introduce new experiences designed to build confidence, curiosity, and adaptability — always at a pace appropriate for their age and individual comfort.
 

Our enrichment includes:

• Different surfaces and textures

• Age-appropriate toys and enrichment activities

• Household sounds such as the vacuum, TV, kitchen activity, and children

• Gentle individual handling and one-on-one attention

• Positive experiences with new sights, sounds, and objects

• Supervised interaction with appropriate family members and household dogs

• Gentle grooming and veterinary-handling practice

• Gradual introduction to crate and safe-space routines

• Early potty-training foundations

Our goal isn't to overwhelm puppies with stimulation. It's to give them positive, age-appropriate experiences that help them develop into confident, adaptable companions.

🐾 A Week-by-Week Approach
Weeks 1–2 — Gentle Beginnings
Individual handling, affection, bonding with Mom, and gentle exposure to normal household life.

Weeks 3–4 — Exploring the World
As their senses and mobility develop, puppies begin experiencing new textures, surfaces, sounds, objects, and age-appropriate enrichment. We also introduce the foundation of a designated potty area.

Weeks 5–6 — Building Confidence
Puppies begin experiencing more intentional enrichment, individual attention, grooming and handling exercises, crate introduction, household sounds, and simple early training experiences.

Weeks 7–8 — Preparing for Home
We continue individual socialization and confidence-building while introducing puppies to routines they'll encounter in their new homes, including appropriate crate time, potty habits, handling, grooming, and age-appropriate experiences outside their immediate puppy environment.
 

🛁 Early Routine Building

We believe small habits introduced early make a big difference for new families.  Before go-home day, puppies are gently introduced to:

• Nail trim handling
• Bath and basic grooming exposure
• Early potty-training foundations
• Crate and safe space introduction

These early experiences mean your puppy arrives already familiar with routines that will become part of daily life in your home.

🩺 Health & Veterinary Monitoring
Every puppy is closely monitored from birth for growth, weight, and overall wellness.  We work hand in hand with our veterinarian throughout the development process to ensure each puppy is healthy, thriving, and ready before go-home day.

All parent dogs are DNA tested, OFA certified, and fully evaluated prior to breeding.  You can read more about our full health standards on our Health page.
 

📸 Staying Connected

We know waiting for your puppy is exciting -- and we want you to feel part of the journey.  Puppy families receive regular photos, updates, and milestone moments throughout the process so you can watch your puppy grow before they ever come home.
